Dog Obedience Training

Obedience training should be the primary concern of all dog owners. The lack of
training is the number one cause of misbehavior and disobedience in dogs. It is also
the number one reason why dogs are abandoned.

See improvements almost immediately.

I’ve been around dogs for many years and training our own dogs has become a
natural part of our lives and we do it instinctively. You can too!!

The training methods that are on this site will show you how to train your own dog at
home without the cost of hiring a trainer.

  • Learn how to get him to focus on you.

  • Once you have his attention you can teach him to sit.

  • When he has learned to sit, you can teach him to lay down.

  • With the sit and down command under his belt, teach him to stay when you
    move away.

  • Let’s take him for a walk and get him used to loose leash training.

  • Now that he's walking on a leash, lets get him to stay close to heel.

  • As he's walking to heel, he will find things he wants to eat/smell/roll in. Teach
    him to leave it.

  • Let him wander a little on a long leash and then get him to come to you on
    command.

  • Okay, he's learned to come to you when called, now get him to fetch and bring
    something back to you.

  • After spending a lot of quality time with him, you need some time apart. Teach
    him to go to bed.

Obedience training your puppy dog effectively:

Have you ever looked at other people’s dogs and thought “wouldn’t it be nice if my
dog behaved like that”? When you are out walking your dog, you have to detour
away from other people with their dogs because yours is unruly. It’s only because he
doesn’t know how to be sociable.

So how do you make him obedient and sociable when he doesn’t understand
commands? Well, he needs to be trained.

All dogs need to be obedience trained. Training him will naturally create a bond
between you which will get stronger with the more he learns. Obedience training will
eliminate any behavioral problems that you may have such as continual barking,
jumping up people or chewing your furniture.

Your goals for training your dog are:

  • Obedience at all times.

  • To feel comfortable and confident in any situation knowing that you are in
    control.

  • To be regard me with respect as the leader of the pack.

  • Your dog to be sociable.

  • Let them retain their spirit and natural instincts.

I have been around so many people whose dogs do not answer to commands. They
jump up, bite, fight, bark and chew and have all the other behavioral problems. I will
give advice but...

You are the best person to train your own dog.

The training methods, hints and tips throughout this site will help you. The techniques
used on this web site we have tried and tested on our dogs over the years with 100%
success.

  • Puppies need to have a good foundation for a happy rewarding life.

  • Older dogs need to regain their trust.

  • Behavioral problems need to be corrected

Owners get embarrassed when their dog disobeys them and they start shouting at
the dog and the dog feels bad for being continually told off. Does that sound like a
scenario you have seen or been a part of?

Obedience training can solve that. You can become a dog obedience trainer for your
own dogs. Just think how happy your dog would be if he finally did something right.
You would be happy too.

You are the one who knows your dog. You, presumably, spend the most time with
him. You are the one that he is going to live with, so it follows that you should be the
one to train him.

If you have never trained a dog before, don’t worry. There are plenty of tips for
training on this site and links to worthwhile dog training programs.

Before you choose a new puppy, you need to make your home safe and puppy proof.
Then you need to do house training which, in itself is a bonding process. Bonding will
make obedience training so much easier.

If you have a dog that is out of the puppy stage he may have behavior problems such
as barking, chewing and jumping up. Learn how to correct it.

Involve the whole family in the training and be consistent with commands, reprimands
and rewards. The family and the dog need to understand what is expected of them.
Your dog will soon be a pet to be proud of as you take him through the neighborhood.
