Goodies for doggies

The return of spring brings with it new buds on the trees and
unfortunately "bugs". Some of these are not simply pesky but may
harmful to our pets and the people who care for them as well.
Parasites can be divided into 2 groups external and internal. The
focus of today's article will be on external parasites or those that
infest the "outside" of our pets.

In The Spotlight
Hello, my name is Archie. Welcome to my site. I'm not a talking dog. That would be odd. However, I do woof a lot. I only claim to type about 120 words per minute - that assumes mum lets me use the computer, and yes I can read. I also have people skills. Email me any time with a question and I will try to answer it.

Get Ready for Spring - Tips

Each year many dogs die from ingesting poisons they
found in the house, backyard, or neighborhood.

Cold Weather Hazards - Like coolant, antifreeze is a
lethal poison for dogs and cats. Be sure to thoroughly
clean up any spills from your vehicle, and consider
using products that contain propylene glycol rather
than ethylene glycol.

If you have any questions about poisons, or if you think
your dog might have eaten something poisonous,
contact your vet or the

Center at (888) 426-4435.

sitting without having to assist with the leash. A taut leash encourages
a dog to pull forward and jump, or be worried. Practice with family and
friends at first, until you no longer need to use the leash to make the
dog sit and stay beside you. Be positive in your manner. A dog takes its
cue on how to behave from the handler. If the handler is friendly and
relaxed, the dog should be the same.

Mosquitos and Heartworm
The first published description of heartworm in dogs
appeared more than 100 years ago in an issue of
"The Western Journal of Medicine and Surgery."
Heartworm in cats was first described in the early
1920's. Since then, naturally acquired heartworm
infection in cats and dogs is identified as a worldwide
clinical problem.

The mosquito is the only natural vector of
transmission for canine heartworms, and about 70
species are capable of carrying the disease. As you
might expect, heartworm infection is more common in
areas where mosquitoes are numerous, and outdoor
dogs constantly exposed to mosquitoes are the most
frequent victims.

Dogs have about 100 different facial
expressions, most of them made with the
ears. Unfortunately, the likes of
bulldogs and pitbulls only have 10, due
to their breeding. Therefore, these dogs
easily get misinterpreted by other dogs
and often get into fights.
